To Travel or Not To Travel?

There’s no shortage of things that keep me up at night these days. Lately, it’s about travel planning.

Now that things are starting to open up in British Columbia and beyond, I’m getting inundated with ads and requests to travel near and far. And while both Keith and I are double-vaxxed plus two-weeks post, we’ve done as much as we possibly can to build up our immune system. That said, it doesn’t mean that we’re comfortable hopping on a plane halfway around the world just yet.

I do realize everyone’s journey is different though. My Instagram feed is jam packed with other content creators hopping on planes crossing national and international borders. Some of those creators I know are vaxxed while some aren’t. Again, even though we belong to the former group, the idea of going somewhere far away while different variants of COVID run rampant doesn’t exactly spell ‘relaxing vacation’ for us.

Here in Canada, infection rates in various provinces are still going up and down. As soon as you think it’s safe to travel and provincial governments begin relaxing restrictions, the infection rates start going up again. Coupled with the talk of alpha, beta, delta, lambda variants… I never thought I would be using so much Greek in my everyday vernacular. And when you extend this to international travel and what other countries are experiencing, it gets even more complicated. Do you need to prove vaccination, do you need to take a test before boarding the plane? When you land? Do you need to quarantine? What about when you head home back to Canada? Depending on where you’ve travelled there may be additional measures when you land… the list is endless. Of course doing the research is part of travel planning now. I just miss the BC (“Before COVID”) days…

It’s getting frustrating, but it seems to be our new reality. How are you feeling about travel these days?
