A Creature of Habit

First day, done and dusted. And boy, did I feel good about it.

I’m talking about my first day back at work (still WFH, mind you). And considering my first conference call started at 6:30 am, I was not only coherent but focused. Like, laser focused. That’s after only about 5 hours sleep the night prior. You’ll have to read my recent post to understand the context of my recent sleep cycle.

I got so much done on my first day that I surprised even myself. But thinking about it some more while I type this in the tub, I truly believe in structure. Not just for kids, it’s essential for busy adults. Adults who are juggling multiple lives as partners, parent, sibling, daughter and oh, content creator.

I had my To Do list ready in the morning along with a reasonably packed calendar. I read somewhere last year that when you plan the night prior - even just spending 5 minutes to write down the Top 3 things you want to accomplish the next day, can really get the morning off on the right foot.

You see, planning is already done and you just wake up and execute. And especially with my first day back at work after a 14-day break meant that I had to be laser focused to get up to speed on everything. I run massive projects at work, with multiple work streams led by global teams so I have to stay extremely organized. I often use those skills in my personal life as well. And today, it really paid off.

Let’s hope I can keep this up for the rest of the week!

How was your first day back?
