Most of you know that I'm one of those busy gals juggling a number of things - with a communications day job, side job as a lifestyle blogger, momma of 2, and loving girlfriend. I'm also co-owner and designer of Joue Design, a textile company I started two years ago with my best friend; owner of Handsome & The Duck, an online shop featuring a collection of vintage goods as well as handmade, personal accessories like knitted and crocheted scarves and cowls by yours truly, under the label "KitsKnits." And lastly, I also paint - watercolours, mostly - and you'll see my work in the H&D shop this year.

Why KitsKnits? Well, I live in Kitsilano (endearingly called 'Kits'), first and foremost - and I absolutely love my neighbourhood. It's one of the oldest in Vancouver. And I've been knitting since I was little thanks to my grandmother who taught me. I knit (and crochet) when I'm stressed, which if you were me, you'd understand given how many balls I have in the air at the moment. I will literally sit in front of the television (usually Netflix) and knit a scarf in the time it takes to finish a movie. There's something very tactile and beautiful about taking something as simple and soft as yarn and creating something else entirely that another human being can enjoy.

it takes me approximately the length of an average movie to knit one of my scarves!

I started knitting these scarves a few months ago when I realized that simply sitting in front of the television didn't allow me to decompress; my mind was still racing with so much to think about and do. I could not sit still - my hands had to do something. Knitting is the perfect answer - and my boyfriend will attest to this. It's the easiest way to calm me after a long day of software communications and then working on Joue.

I realized that a few months later I had all these scarves lying around and knowing that I couldn't possibly wear all of them, I decided to sell them instead under the KitsKnits label. I've tried to keep the prices reasonable (starting at $60 each) but also reflective that it's a handmade, hand knit product that's created by me in my home (which is also my studio) here in Vancouver. No middleman, no offshore hands have touched these. Just me - made with love - for you.

If you're interested, please head to my shop at Handsome and The Duck where they'll be carried exclusively. You can also get them on the Handsome and The Duck Etsy shop.
