Fenjiu - A Spirit for the Brave
It’s mind boggling enough that I’ve grown up learning about a culture that’s thousands of years old and I’ve largely kept it to myself as a child of immigrant parents. IYKYK. But seeing a spirit like Fenjiu, which is considered the ancestor of Baijiu begin to gain traction in the Western world was something I didn’t anticipate. And to be honest, that’s pretty cool.
I’m just learning about the spirit myself and thanks to @pickydiner of @coolpeachmedia and @fenchiew_lpwines a few of us recently got to experience it as part of a collab happening in the city with @mott32van @uvavancouver @ellipsis.ca
Fenjiu can be paired with many types of dishes and of course used in cocktails. It’s not for the faint of heart so keep that in mind. That said, there’s one that’s rose-flavoured with lower 28% ABV that was very approachable and floral.
What a way to go head first into the Year of the Fire Horse! 🐎 🔥🍸
