Blank Canvas: BLK Paintings

Do you remember graduating from college and trying to figure out what you were going to do with your life? Some people go through their entire lives with that question unanswered, going from one job to another. Others have a calling and sometimes are lucky enough to hear that calling and do something about it.

Briana Liau Kent had always loved art and design since she was a child. Every creative bone in her body pushed her to draw, paint, make jewelry, scrap book, take photos, make cards, knit, sew and anything else that allowed her a form of expression.

Kent is best known as the libero (defensive specialist) of the legendary UBC Thunderbirds Womens Volleyball team that captured six consecutive Canadian Interuniversity Sport volleyball championships (kind of like Canada’s answer to the NCAA). She graduated with a Kinesiology degree from UBC this past year and was considering where life was taking her. Kent was literally presented with a blank canvas to begin this next chapter and she began to take painting more seriously.

I was recently at her first art show launch event and had the privilege to browse through her inaugural collection. Take a look at her work and see for yourself. While still many years left to hone her craft, she’s off to a pretty impressive start – plenty of talent there. I personally love supporting local artists who are passionate about their work and their city. Plus, you smart investors out there, grab her work before it gets really expensive. You know what I’m talking about.
